'Fly High In Heaven': Western Mass Man ID'd As Victim In Fatal Chicopee Shooting

A 34-year-old man has died of his injuries from a weekend shooting in Hampden County, a report said.

Marquis Newson, of Chicopee, was shot on Saturday, Feb. 3, in a parking lot on Springfield Street in Chicopee, the Hampden County District Attorney's Office said. Police responded to a report of shots fired just before 10 p.m. and found the man on the ground bleeding from a bullet wound. 

Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital, where he died days later. 

Memorials on social media said he was a loving friend and a talented rapper. 

Police ask anyone who has information about the fatal shooting or anyone in the area who has surveillance video with footage taken around the time of the attack to contact investigators at 413-594-1740.
